Road trips are the best! They are the perfect way to travel
since you get to see so much on your drives. It also gives you a chance to know
your travel companion even better. Recently, Ryan and I decided to take a trip
down to Florida, where a majority of our family resides. The opportunity to
drive down to the Sunshine State arose and we took it!
We’ve taken road trips together before, but they all were no
more than 6/7 hours away. Since we had about 17 hours of driving ahead of us,
we decided to pick a place to stop along the way; somewhere new that we haven’t
been together. So we picked Savannah, Georgia!! I’ve heard great things about
Savannah, but have never been to Georgia in general, only have driven through
it. After driving through the night, we finally arrived! It was beautiful down
south (& the weather wasn’t too bad either!) We checked into our hotel
around 3, which gave us enough time to reboot before hitting Savannah for the
night.
Our first task when arriving in downtown Savannah was to
look for River Street, an old cobblestone road where restaurants and local
shops resided. It sat right on the Savannah River and was beyond picture
perfect. I figured I would dress up a
little for dinner out, so I wore an old Lilly Pulitzer romper I had (&
brought a sweater for the breeze). If anyone travels to Savannah, I highly
recommend not wearing high heels of any sort since there are tons of old
stairwells and stones to fall on. I wore my Jack Rogers, and still struggled
now and again.
After walking up and down River Street, Ryan and I headed to
a restaurant called “Treylor Park” (we asked a local for some good
recommendations) and boy, did this not disappoint. There were so many things on
the menu worth trying! We had a few ideas in mind, but the possibilities were
endless. Treylor Park had a very unique feel to it, with classic rock playing
in the background and E.T. streaming on the TV’s. It was very different, but I
mean that in the best way possible! It was a great experience! We ended up
ordering Peanut Butter and Jelly Wings, Nachos (Made with fried Chicken and
waffle fries), and a chicken Pot Pie. It was all great, but I think I liked the
wings the most, while Ry enjoyed the Pot Pie. This was definitely a new
experience that was worth it.

The next day, we walked around Savannah a little before our final drive to Florida. They have so many shops that I could probably shop for a week straight, but don’t worry, I tried to control myself. I did end up strolling into a Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store, Pink Avenue, where I found a “You Gotta Regatta” Shift Dress!!! I love this print and missed getting anything when it was rereleased so this was a real find for me! Especially since it was on sale!!! Two thumbs WAY up.
I highly recommend anyone who hasn’t been to visit Savannah. There is honestly something for everyone. There’s shopping, dining, history, and a few haunts. I’m hoping to check these out next time we venture down to Georgia.
PS - Sorry this post is late, we ended up not having any internet last night
